There will be an open call for papers for the conference.

As an idea, could the Republic of Lavalon prepare a paper? Is there anything that we as a group could offer, research and write up,that would interest a more general academic audience? It would be a good chance to showcase the republic if we did.

The following details about the conference are now confirmed:

It's the 17th of April, on Danger Island, in Sydney. Registration will be $25 per person.

Austrian filmmaker, Paul Poet, will be there, recording for his upcoming documentary Empire Sabotage. A film crew from SBS may also be covering events.

An interim official conference website is available here: http://www.soc.mq.edu.au/PoliNation-conference/

I'm currently staying with The Emperor of Atlantium in Sydney, we're just back from a huge day at the conference.

The media presence was intense. We had reporters from the Sydney Morning Herald, the BBC, Globo TV, and Associated Press. And then there was Paul Poet's rather annoying film crew, who followed our every movement for the day.

Conference reports...

Dangar Island Secession Movement!
Sarah Galvin, a resident of Dangar Island, spoke about how the residents of Dangar Island had flirted with the idea of secession a decade ago. Their concerns about development and environmental protection on the island were being ignored by local and state government authorities. They instead formed a rather successful local environmental lobby group.
