In order to further our shared understanding of micronationalism, the Kingdom of Novaltia and the Republic of Lavalon have been engaged in discussions on joint statement concerning the issue of micronational legitimacy.
The draft text being discussed currently reads as follows:
Joint Statement by
The Republic of Lavalon
and
The Kingdom of Novaltia
on the Political Legitimacy of Micronations
1. The nation is a construct of the imagination, supposedly shared by all citizens, but in reality ascribed according to birth or residence within a territory irrespective of will or consent.
2. The micronation is a deliberate construct, verifiably shared by all citizens, by virtue of it's entirely voluntary nature.
3. Insofar as legitimacy is a product of collective citizen consent to government, the micronation has a greater claim to legitimacy than the modern macro-state.
4. Truely legitimate authority must have the consent of all over whom it is exersized, and not simply a majority of a governed population.
Therefore, the parties agree that:
a. They will never admit as a citizen any person who cannot express informed consent, AND:
b. they will not recognise the right of any entity to speak for people other than those who are expressly aware of and consent to their citizenship in that entity.
