Muhammad Tahir Tabassum, a new citizen of the Republic of Lavalon, is the CEO of the Pakistan/Belgium NGO, the Institue for Peace and Development.
I recently received this update on the situation in Pakistan from INSPAD:
The Belgium based reputed and well known think tank Institute of Peace and Development (INSPAD) strongly condemned the Suicide bombing and gun attacks in public crowded places in Pakistan at Rawalpindi, Peshawar and Lahore that has killed hundreds of innocent people and deadly attacks targeting civilian population across Pakistan. The numerous serious attacks included GHQ and targeting killing of senior military officers also. In a meeting, INSPAD Board of Directors presided by Executive Director and Ambassador for Peace Mr. Muhammad Tahir Tabassum had the deepest condolence for the effected families and condemned this shocking and shameless act and the terrorist who committed this ghastly unqualified and unlawful crime. Meeting attended by the directors Mr. Kamran Azam Khan, Irfan Tahir, Chaudhry Masood Ahmed, Azam Khan Tanoli, Mrs. Maqbool Akhter and Babar Hameed Gorsi.
INSPAD, who have special Observer status in United Nations, expresses its deep grief and outrage at the loss of so many innocent lives. The attacks were very harmful since the Pak Army launched a major defensive assault on rural Waziristan. The militants should be crushed and the nation unites for stability and integrity of the country. INSPAD appeal to politicians, media and civil society of Pakistan should stand up with unity and fight back because our salvation lies in a strengthened and stable Pakistan. INSPAD appreciated the positive role of UN, OIC and EU and other international institutions to help save Pakistan and hope that Pakistan will be successful in its war on terror.
INSPAD said that Obama administration should realize the difficulties of Pakistan as these hurdles were being faced because of the role as front-man in “war on terror”.
The United Nations and other aid agencies urged the warring parties to observe international humanitarian law ensuring safety for civilians. Peace cannot be maintained without justice and harmony as every religion preaches peace, love, brotherhood and tolerance. INSPAD will continue these efforts for hopeful future and peaceful coexistence. We nurtured one flower of peace, and sure, time will come very soon when that flower can turn into a bouquet of peace and hopefully it will be scattered all around the world with its pleasant fragrance and we will remove all hatred, conflicts, discriminations and extremism. There should be no two opinions that terrorism primarily has absolutely nothing to do with Islam, It also needs to be made clear that state terrorism is still worse and needs to be condemned without exception and compromise. World powers must realize that unjustified killings all over the world in general and particularly in Kashmir, Palestine and many other countries is very dangerous and alarming for world Peace.
It appears that the entire world has turned against Muslims. In media, the violations of human rights in Kashmir, Palestine, Iraq, Chechnya, Philippines and Afghanistan is giving us a very clear message that Muslims must unite now otherwise it will be too late for them. The chaotic situation in the Muslim world is not only putting the Muslims into danger, it is likely to spread throughout the world, if not checked at the right time.
INSPAD makes a fervent appeal to UN, EU and OIC and global institutions to establish a Think Tank, comprising religious scholars, intellectuals and experts from all walks of life to resolve political, religious, social and economic conflicts. It may be able to play a vital role in promoting peace and stability in all nations. It will also boost cooperation among the nations globally.
