Fellow Citizens,

We are currently discussing a new constitution. As the draft stands now, an election for Consul will be held within three months of the constitution being adopted.

The proclamation of the 23rd of July, the document that currently guides the governance of the Republic, requires that an election for Consul be held no later than the 23rd of January.

I propose suspending the election required by the proclamation, passing the constitution, and then holding an election.

This bill will make that happen.

Quote
Elections (delay) Act 2010
A bill to delay Consular elections until a new constitution is adopted.

1. Elections for the position of Consul are hereby suspended, pending the adoption of a new constitution of the Republic of Lavalon.

2. The Senate is required to make every effort to pass a new constitution before the 31st of March 2010.

3. If the Senate fails to adopt a constitution before the 31st of March 2010, an election for the position of Consul shall be held on the 17th of April 2010.

I commend the bill to the house.

Makes sense.  Not sure what else there is to say.

I hope the timetable is not too tight.

We have been spending a lot of time discussing the constitution and proposed amendments.

But I think it is important that an election is held at some point.

I call the measure to a (belated) vote!

Vote APPROVE to adopt this bill, vote DECLINE to reject it. Voting is open for two days.
